Переломы вертлужной впадины являются одними из самых сложных переломов, затрагивающих тазобедренный сустав, и представляют собой проблему для хирургов ортопедов-травматологов. Первые известные описания хирургической фиксации переломов вертлужной впадины были описаны в 1943 году. В 1964 году R.Judet, J.Judet и E.Letournel опубликовали знаковую статью, описывающую систему классификации и хирургических доступов к лечению переломов вертлужной впадины. Эти учения оказали значительное влияние на клинические результаты после хирургической фиксации переломов вертлужной впадины.
В 1980 году Letournel продемонстрировал 80% хороших и отличных результатов, а в 2012 году Matta продемонстрировал 79% выживаемость после хирургической фиксации вертлужной впадины. И Letournel окончательно доказал, что анатомическая репозиция перелома является наиболее влиятельным фактором, предсказывающим клинический исход. В хирургии таза и вертлужной впадины были достигнуты многочисленные достижения. Однако, несмотря на эти достижения, хирурги все еще пытаются улучшить результаты хирургического лечения переломов вертлужной впадины.
